Providing a CLASSIC Solution
Konica Minolta has been a sponsor for the CIMB Classic for the past two years where they are primarily involved in providing documentation solutions for the media center and other event offices.
Why the CIMB Classic? “Appearance here gives us exposure, not just in Malaysia but the rest of the world ... Asia, Europe and America,” said C.K. Lim Head of Sales and Marketing in the cool comfort of its hospitality suite overlooking the finishing hole at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. With the attention they had garnered for sponsoring the Sime Darby LPGA event last five years, it is only natural they follow suit with this larger crowd pulling tournament, which is the only PGA Tour event in South East Asia.
It is a great platform for Konica Minolta to extend Its branding activities to a wider, more serious audience and making sure that Its biggest clients like Sime Darby, Zurich International, OCBC Bank and etc are aware of its strong presence In the market.

“We want to get the market to understand us as a document solutions provider with a heart. We represent quality. We never push out a product which is not ready.”
As in the case of this year’s LPGA, Konica Minolta had a package deal that provided for an exhibition booth primarily for a photo shoot using Konica Minolta digital equipment with photo framing thrown in, all proceeds going to CARIF the cancer research and education foundation.
In addition, a small Family Fun Zone was created near the piano lounge in the clubhouse that attracted children with popcorn and an opportunity to try their hand at putting, every sen collected going to CARIF as well. The decision was to stick with the same charity promoted at the LPGA. “But we are prepared to work with any other charity as well,” said Lim.
Was it all worth it? Absolutely because the valuation of media and other exposure Konica Minolta received last year was more than enough. It suggested a continuing partnership in the two events in the years ahead.
CK said that the responses from existing and potential corporate clients are positive and rising as well as they are one of the companies, which are repeatedly invited for high end events like the CIMB Classic. “Our guests are invited to the Pro-Am every year and have relished the close encounters with international golfers for these 2 years, such as Ryo Ishikawa and Hideki Matsuyama from Japan, Kiradech Aphibarnrat from Thailand, England’s Lee Westwood to name a few. Konica Minolta will continue to support CIMB Classic as this world class golf tournament is an excellent platform for us to reach further and wider target audiences,” said CK.
